Confirmation
Home Confirming Disciples Calendar

We asked for feedback about the Confirmation preparation program from students, parents and teachers. The response was wonderful. The main recommendations were:

More flexibility needed, students and families are very busy
More discussion and information on Church teaching regarding current issues in the world
A greater connection between service hours and the message of Jesus
Youth friendly Masses and more involvement by young people at Mass
More "fun" activities
A way for parents to be involved in this very important process
Students still need the basics; especially scripture and Church beliefs
Small groups format helps to build connections to the parish
Continuation of Youth Group and the youth leadership council
Keeping youth oriented retreats
Treating the youth as the young adults they are

We took all of these recommendations seriously, looked at various models of Confirmation preparation that were working in other parishes and met together with staff and parishioners to design a program that we hope will meet these needs.

The confirmation preparation program tries to meet these recommendations. We will be looking for your feedback throughout the year. Please do not hesitate to call us or email us with your comments and suggestions. We want this to help students and families connect faith and life.

The format will be similar to signing up and taking classes at the high school. Students will need to attend a variety of activities within each component. Certain activities will be required but we have tried to give options whenever possible. Students will be given Confirmation journals and should bring these to all activities and events and be sure they are stamped and initialed by the leader or presenter. There is a place in the journal for the student’s comments and feedback that will help us plan for the future.
